Asbestos Removal
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been used commonly in a variety of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire-retardant. EPA and CPSC have banned several asbestos products. Manufacturers have also voluntarily limited uses of asbestos. Today, asbestos is most commonly found in older homes, in pipe and furnace insulation materials, asbestos shingles, millboard, textured paints and other coating materials, and floor tiles.
Asbestos is a potential health concern because long term, chronic inhalation exposure to high levels of asbestos can cause lung diseases such asasbestosis, mesothelioma, and/or lung cancer. Asbestos exposure may also increase chances of getting two other types of lung disease: cancer of the lung tissue itself and mesothelioma, a rare and deadly form of lung cancer that occurs in the lining of the chest and abdomen.

Usually an event, like construction or replacing pipes, tiles or insulation cause the asbestos to become airborn and hazardous.
There are number of methods for air testing pre and post remedation. Synergy uses Asbestos-airbome fiber count (NIOSH 7400)
The analysis includes testing of air sample for asbetos and other fibers by PCM. It is used primarily for estimating asbetos concentrations in air. It is used to show compliance with limits set by NIOSH, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies. A cassette must be equipped with an electrically conductive 50-mm extension cowl. The sampling time and rate are chosen to give a fiber density of between 100 to 1,300 fibers/mm(2) on the filter.
The cost and timing for remediation and air testing are of course dependent on the size and scope of the project. Small areas of contamination can be cleaned within a few hours, with testing results following within 48 hours. Larger projects with multiple buildings can take months to achieve completion.
Beyond the scope of the project, cost factors can be influenced by difficulty of access to exposed areas, work hour limitations or other limitation events set by the client.
